Missing Teeth? Why not ‘Grow’ New Ones?

Dental Implant Benefits

Dental implants are the ideal way to replace lost teeth. From the front of the mouth, where they are most visible, to the back, where they provide stability to chew a full variety of foods, implants can help you recapture a beautiful and healthy smile. For people missing one or more teeth, there is no better option to regain the look and function of natural teeth than with this method of cosmetic dentistry. For dental implants in Cincinnati, Covedale Dental Studio is the right choice.

How Have Dental Implants Benefitted Our Cincinnati Patients?

Better Chewing Ability: A tooth implant is stable and durable. It becomes part of the jaw bone like a natural tooth and stays firmly in place while you eat. Implants—whether replacing one tooth or many—can  also be more comfortable than other tooth replacement options.

Improved Speaking Clarity: Adults with dentures that slip complain that their speech is impacted resulting in slurred or mumbled words. This is remedied with quality implant-supported dentures—they’re stably attached to your jaw.

Increased Confidence: Dental implant surgery results in replacement teeth that fit in perfectly with existing teeth. Our patient’s smile is restored without gaps or discoloration detracting from their appearance. There’s no worry about anything slipping or falling out while talking or eating.

Safer Oral Health: Implants are as close as you can get to real teeth. They can be brushed and flossed like natural teeth.  Implants don’t require alterations to nearby teeth like a bridge does. Additionally, there is less concern for bone loss compared to sit-on-top dentures which have no replacement root interacting with the jaw bone. In addition to preserving the safety of your oral health, dental implants can last a lifetime with regular care and check-ups.

How Dental Implants Work

Unlike bridges or removable dentures, which sit on top of the gums, implants are placed under the gums. The “tooth” placed on an implant appears life-like, because it comes through the gums just like the original did – it’s like growing a new tooth! Implants can be used to replace any number of lost teeth. Even people with no teeth can benefit from implants, because they can replace their dentures with teeth that don’t move around when they talk and don’t need to be taken out at night. Since a majority of the time we’re able to complete the whole process at our Cincinnati dental office, from implant placement to crown/denture fabrication, there’s no need to visit other offices via referral.

Overdentures – No More Messy Denture Adhesives!

People who wear dentures will tell you that the worst part is having their teeth slip, tilt, or slide while they’re eating. They have to use denture adhesive to try to keep their teeth from moving around. This is a major irritant for them. But now, at Covedale Dental Studio in Cincinnati, OH, we offer our denture patients an alternative – overdentures. With the use of just a few dental implants to support the dentures, your teeth will be “locked” into place so they won’t move. Yet they easily snap off for cleaning. Say goodbye to messy creams! Ask us if you are a candidate for overdentures!

The Basic Dental Implant Steps:

Here are the steps involved in receiving dental implants:

  1. Consultation: Dr. Patel conducts a one-on-one consultation using x-rays and a full examination (sometimes this requires the additional need for a 3-D xray) to ensure there’s adequate bone structure to support the implant process. If everything looks good, you move onto the next step
  2. Implant Placement: The doctor fully numbs the area. He then places a titanium post into the missing tooth’s bone socket.
  3. Healing Period: We then allow a healing period so the implant can fuse with your jaw over a 6 to 24 week period.
  4. Abutment Placement: Dr. Patel then places a connector piece, called an “abutment,” on top of the implant post. The abutment allows the artificial tooth to connect to the implant.
  5. New Tooth: Your new tooth is attached to your implant.
